The Mango Festival Changed My Business

The Mango Festival Changed My Business

Every small business owner remembers that one moment.

That one opportunity that almost didn’t happen.
That one decision that felt uncomfortable.
That one leap of faith that changed everything.

For me, that moment was the Hågat Mango Festival.

Back in 2024, my brotha Ton from Guam Funny Memes asked me to do a pop-up at Mango Fest. And honestly… I almost said no.

At the time, I was still trying to figure things out with Blades By Crank. I was sharpening knives, selling online, grinding every day trying to build something from scratch. But the idea of setting up at a mango festival selling chef knives and cutlery sounded crazy to me.

I remember thinking:

“Who’s going to a mango festival to buy knives?”

I had all the doubts.
All the fear.
All the overthinking.

What if nobody buys?
What if I waste my time?
What if people think this is weird?
What if I fail publicly?

And I know a lot of people reading this know exactly what that feeling feels like.

That fear before taking a chance.
That voice in your head telling you not to do it.
That pressure to wait until everything is perfect before starting.

But here’s the truth I learned:

There is no perfect moment.

Sometimes you just have to go.

And thank Goodness I did.

Because that one pop-up completely changed my perspective on business.

It opened my eyes to the power of face-to-face connection. People didn’t just buy knives — they connected to the story. They wanted to hear about the sharpening business, the culture behind the designs, the journey, the passion, the island pride behind the brand.

That weekend showed me something powerful:
people don’t just support products… they support people.

That single Mango Festival planted the seed for a whole new side of Blades By Crank. It eventually led to more pop-ups around Guam, then California, Texas, and stateside events with our island community.

Crazy to think that all of that almost never happened because I was scared to take the leap.

That’s why the Hågat Mango Festival will always hold a special place in my heart.

And now here we are again.

This weekend — Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, May 22–24 — we’re back at one of Guam’s biggest and most anticipated festivals of the year.

And this year is extra special.

I’ll be there all weekend:

  • Selling knives
  • Sharpening knives
  • Launching brand new knife designs I’ve been wanting to release this year
  • Connecting with the community that helped build this brand from the beginning

And if you own a Blades By Crank knife, remember — complimentary sharpening is always included. Bring your knives down and let’s get them SHINARP again.

The Local Shop will be there.
Netty Cee will be there.
The Lil Cranks Village kids will be there.

The whole island vibe will be there.

That’s what makes Guam special.

It’s not just about food.
It’s not just about mangoes.
It’s not just about shopping.

It’s about community.
It’s about culture.
It’s about seeing the entire island come together.

And honestly… moments like this remind me why I started all of this in the first place.

So if you’re someone out there thinking about starting something…
launching something…
creating something…
or taking a risk…

This is your reminder:

Don’t let fear make your decisions for you.

You will miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.

Take the leap.
Face your fears.
And just go.

Hope to see all of you che’lu’s down at the Hågat Mango Festival this weekend.
