SHINEFS: The Island Cooking Show You Didn’t Know You Needed

SHINEFS: The Island Cooking Show You Didn’t Know You Needed

What do you get when you mix island humor, SHINARP blades, and home-cooked Chamorro food?
You get a SHINEF.

This whole idea started from a random, funny convo with my wife. We were talking about knives and I said, “Bruh, that’s not just sharp… that’s shinarp.” And just like that — the slang stuck. Then we took it a step further.
“What do you call a chef who uses a shinarp knife?”
Boom. SHINEF. 🔪🔥

It was funny at first — just jokes and vibes. But the more we talked about it, the more real it became. I realized: there are so many people here on Guam and across the Marianas who aren’t just chefs. They’re SHINEFS. People who cook with love, tradition, and SHINARP tools. People keeping our culture alive one fiesta plate at a time.

What is SHINEFS?

It’s more than just a show.
It’s island style. It’s comedy. It’s cultural pride.
It’s our stories, told through food — and it’s all built around the idea that cooking connects us. Across generations, across villages, across islands.

This show is here to highlight the home cooks, the local chefs, the mom making kadu in the kitchen with one chancla on, the uncle who grills like a pro, the kid just learning how to fry egg — that’s all Shinef energy.

Whether you’re running a restaurant in Hagåtña or making empanåda with your grandma in Saipan, this show is for you.

Why I Created It

I wanted to shine a light on local businesses and help get the word out in a way that’s fun, on-brand, and true to who we are.
Every episode is powered by Blades By Crank — the official knife of SHINEFS — and every feature is someone from the Marianas who cooks with soul.

And it’s not just about showcasing talent.
It’s about preserving recipes, bridging generations, and keeping culture alive through food.

I want people to laugh, to learn how to make the meals they grew up on, and to feel pride in who we are. From the prep to the plating, food tells our story — and SHINEFS is here to document it.

What’s Coming

There’s no set “Season 1” yet — we’re letting it grow naturally.
But we’re starting with the roots:

  • Fiesta foods 🌺
  • Cultural favorites 🥥
  • Hidden gems in our communities 🌊
  • And island-style cooking that’s unfiltered, real, and proud 🇬🇺

Wanna Be Part of It?

Tag your favorite SHINEF.
Whether they’re a legend at the grill, the red rice queen, or just someone that cooks from the heart — we want to feature them.
The goal is to share stories, pass down recipes, and have fun while doing it.

Let’s put our people on the map. Let’s show the world what Chamorro cooking is all about.

This is SHINEFS. Let’s get SHINARP.
